| Westside CubsFive years ago in 2004, I began coaching the Westside Cubs, a local Whitfield County youth baseball team. Since websites were a hobby, I built the boys a website. This was innovative in 2004! No youth baseball team had a website. In 2009, you are not considered an organized youth baseball Westside Cubs players (7 year olds) could be overheard by teachers at the Westside Elementary School lunch table saying (in their coolest voice) "I play for the Westside Cubs- we've got our own website". Youth and parents from all over the county tried to join this recreation league team, but only Westside Elementary School boys could join. We did an excellent job in teaching these boys the game of baseball. We were the best team in the county and our boys played a year ahead of their age. After winning two County Championships, six of our boys made the Westside Middle School team as sixth graders in 2009. For "one" 6th grader to make the middle school team is rare but for six players to make the team is unheard of. Our Cubbies came to middle school baseball with a firm grasp of baseball fundamentals. In addition to these "six", we have 2 more players who will be sixth graders in 2010 and will likely earn a spot as sixth graders in 2010. Se also WSYAA.
