| Dalton High SchoolIn 1982, in the heart of a recession and just prior to graduating from the University of Georgia, I was hired by Dalton Public Schools to teach marketing, advertising, and math/science (out of field). Dalton High School was a national school of excellence, offered the largest local supplement in the State of Georgia, and was among the most prized teaching jobs in the State of Georgia. It was here that I developed a love for teaching/mentoring others. This love of teaching/training still exists today and I have always attributed the success I have enjoyed to this love of teaching and and in helping others. Much of my success at CRI and Akzo Nobel can be attributed to my passion for teaching. At CRI, I traveled extensively making presentations and teaching courses that promoted the carpet industry. The purpose of this message was to communicate the IAQ message. At Akzo Nobel, I became their #1 sales rep by using teaching techniques to communicate my sales message to Home Depot associates. I trained Home Depot associates and managers every day. These associates used this training to sell my product to Home Depot customers. All of this success can be traced back to my employment as a teacher at Dalton High School. In leaving teaching I became a Salem Carpet sales rep, I was successful through long hours and hard work. If I had discovered the power and benefits of communication through teaching, I could have worked fewer hours to achieve the same level of success. |
